About Us
The Work and Play Disability Community Center was founded by a small group of parents and community members driven by a shared goal—to build a more inclusive and supportive world for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. What began as a grassroots effort to connect and empower families has grown into a vibrant hub offering advocacy, resources, education, and life-enriching programs for all ages.
Through continued collaboration, community events, and accessible programming, Work and Play works to uplift and strengthen the disability community across Washtenaw County and surrounding regions.

Our Mission
The Work and Play Disability Community Center is a resource and advocacy organization that promotes inclusion, supports lifelong growth, and empowers individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Our Vision
We envision a world where individuals with disabilities are fully included, celebrated, and supported—where every person has the opportunity to thrive in community, connection, and purpose.
Our Values
At the core of Work and Play is a deep belief in inclusion and belonging. We strive to create a space where individuals of all abilities feel seen, supported, and celebrated. We believe in the power of community—of building strong, meaningful connections between families, caregivers, professionals, and allies. Through compassionate support, we empower individuals with disabilities and their families to advocate for themselves and pursue their goals with confidence. We’re committed to sharing knowledge, fostering understanding, and always learning together. Every program, event, and conversation is rooted in empathy, respect, and the unwavering belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Who We Serve
Work and Play serves individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages, as well as their families, caregivers, educators, and community partners throughout Southeast Michigan. While we are based in Washtenaw County, we welcome families and supporters from neighboring regions who are seeking connection, services, and a sense of belonging.
Membership is open to all. Some programs may prioritize local families, but our doors are always open to those who share our mission.
